Bristol City new manager: Mousinho odds slashed at Portsmouth amid hire bombshell
Bristol City could be in line to make an approach to steal John Mousinho away from Portsmouth.
There is no shortage of interest in the 39-year-old after a stellar two seasons in charge of Pompey at the start of his managerial career.
This has seen the Fratton Park club finally earn promotion from League One before achieving survival in the Championship with relative ease.
As positive as this was on the south coast, this appears to have caught the attention of the Robins, who are on the lookout for a new manager.

Mousinho could be poached by Bristol City
Considering the Englishman’s lack of coaching experience before his move to PO4, there is no doubt about how successful he has been.
This has allowed Blues fans to look ahead to the future with the hope of potentially shooting towards the play-off spots in the second tier.
Position | Club | Goal difference | Points |
15. | QPR | -10 | 56 |
16. | Portsmouth | -13 | 54 |
17. | Oxford United | -16 | 53 |
That dream may be put on hold in the coming weeks or months if the ex-Oxford United man is to depart ahead of the new campaign.
This may have taken a step closer to being the case after Mousinho emerged as a potential target for Bristol City, who are currently without a manager.
This comes after Norwich City confirmed the appointment of Liam Manning on Tuesday (3 June), after a play-off finish at Ashton Gate.
With the search for an alternative boss already underway for the Robins, the Pompey manager has seen his odds slashed to 6/1 to potentially take over, according to BetVictor (4 June).
The former midfielder does sit behind Gary O’Neil and Rob Edwards in the running, but is rising up the list as his likelihood continues to shorten.

Portsmouth must keep Mousinho
It has to be said that Mousinho is arguably the best thing that has happened to the south coast club in a very long time.
After years of stalling in League One, the Englishman was able to turn things around and establish his side as a potentially stable Championship side.
This has been done with the smart recruitment of the likes of Josh Murphy and Nico Schmid, which supporters will be hopeful of continuing this summer.
As a result, any approach from Bristol City has to be turned down and can’t be entertained, unless the head coach is keen on making the move to replace Manning.
