‘Fratton Park change desperately required’ after new Portsmouth announcement

Portsmouth are preparing for another season of Championship football at Fratton Park this coming campaign.

It wasn’t plain sailing, but John Mousinho’s men saved themselves from the relegation drop with some time to spare at the end of 2024-25.

Looking ahead to next season, Pompey will be eager to push further up the table next time around, not coming so close to risking their second-tier status.

Fratton Park proved to be a fortress for Mousinho’s side and Michael Eisner will be hoping supporters can have a similar impact next term.

Portsmouth make season ticket announcement

Although there were some concerns that Mousinho could be on his way out of Portsmouth after his success last season, he looks likely to stay put.

With that in mind, fans will be eager to show their support once more next term and enjoy another season of Championship football.

Portsmouth are aiming for higher next season.

With some exciting games to look forward to, like the South Coast derby against Southampton, there is plenty to look forward to.

Therefore, it’s no surprise that supporters were eager to renew their season tickets before the start of the new campaign.

With the deadline for renewal being 3 June, Portsmouth announced that more than 14,000 supporters have already claimed their tickets for next term.

Season Tickets are capped at 15,000, with a waiting list of more than 3,000.

Fratton Park needs work

While the number of season tickets sold is impressive, the numbers have raised some issues that do need addressing by the club.

Fratton Park has a capacity of just over 21,000, and with season tickets capped at 15,000, there are limited spaces available for other supporters, especially when you factor in away fans.

With Pompey looking to develop a sustainable future both on and off the pitch, there has to be some attention given to the stadium and how it could be expanded to accommodate larger numbers of supporters.

The second tier is no easy place and Portsmouth already have one of the lowest budgets in the division, which won’t be helped by the promotion of Wrexham and Birmingham City this season.

However, a larger capacity would allow for more income into Fratton Park and surely be a good step towards solving the issues being faced.

As the season ticket demands shows, Pompey fans could sell the ground out three times over if Premier League promotion is ever achieved again, and plans therefore need to be put in place.
