BBC reporter shares five-word update amid Jamal Lowe to Portsmouth transfer talk

Portsmouth could look to bring Jamal Lowe back to Fratton Park this summer.

The Jamaica international was a fan favourite in his time on the south coast before completing a move to Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2019.

Since making that switch, the 30-year-old has gone on to feature for a further six clubs, also featuring in the Premier League with Bournemouth.

With Lowe now featuring for Sheffield Wednesday, John Mousinho could look to complete a move to bring the versatile forward back to PO4.

Portsmouth learn chances of Lowe return

There wouldn’t be many fans around Fratton Park who wouldn’t want to see the return of the man who netted 29 goals in his previous two-year spell with the club.

This saw the winger play a key role in getting Pompey promoted to League One before eventually completing a move of his own to the Championship.

Since then, he has become a capable player in the second tier, which could be of perfect use under Mousinho moving into the new season.

The chance to combine Lowe with Colby Bishop and Josh Murphy could prove to be devastating in what could prove to be a hugely positive season.

With that being said, it doesn’t appear that the PO4 club are in the running to mark their second consecutive Championship season with a homecoming.

This comes after BBC reporter Andrew Moon shared a message via X on 6 June, saying: “Pompey aren’t signing Jamal Lowe.”

Portsmouth dealt Lowe blow in transfer hunt

There is no doubt that Mousinho will be keen to add an attacking threat to his squad ahead of the new campaign.

The re-introduction of Paddy Lane and Callum Lang next season will certainly be a boost, but fresh faces will also be wanted by the English head coach.

It doesn’t appear that Lowe will be on the former Oxford United man’s shopping list as a move for the Sheffield Wednesday man looks to be off the table.

This could represent a blow as the 30-year-old on a cut-price deal would have represented a useful asset to the squad given his quality and experience in the division.
