Aston Villa player sends message after confirmed Portsmouth transfer news

Portsmouth fans are awaiting news of new signings now that the summer transfer window has officially opened.

The Fratton Park club did well to register a 16th-place finish in their first season after getting promoted back to the Championship.

However, it’s widely agreed that Pompey will need to sign some new players to continue progressing up the league in future seasons.

Aston Villa ace Joe Gauci responds to Kusini Yengi’s exit message

Currently, the Fratton Park Faithful have only been served up news of players leaving the club, either because their loan deals or contracts are set to expire.

Kusini Yengi is one player who won’t be around next season as Pompey have opted not to renew his contract.

The news was met with a mixed reaction, as Yengi played a big role in helping the Blues win the League One title last season.

However, the Australian has struggled with injuries and poor form this year. Indeed, Yengi has blamed his fitness problems for not being able to secure a new deal.

The 26-year-old posted a montage video on Instagram on Saturday (7 June) to say his official goodbye to Portsmouth supporters.

The post received replies from several of his former teammates, including Colby Bishop and Marlon Pack.

Aston Villa goalkeeper Joe Gauci also responded with a kangaroo emoji, a show of solidarity with his fellow Australian international.

Pompey have to make tough decisions in summer transfer window

It hasn’t been easy for Portsmouth to adapt to the demands of the Championship.

John Mousinho had to make several signings during the last two transfer windows to ensure his squad could compete adequately in the second tier.

He also had to offload players whom he deemed were not up to the task.

That’s what ultimately has happened with Yengi. The Aussie contributed a fair amount of goals and assists in League One, but he looked out of his depth at times this year.

It’s sad to see Yengi leave, but there’s no room for sentiment in the depths of a relegation battle. Thankfully, Mousinho has proved capable of making difficult decisions as he continued to amend his first-team squad.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Yengi sign for a League One club and excel at that level again. If he ever returned to Fratton Park, he’d surely receive a good reception.
