Portsmouth given hope of landing £4.2m forward Manneh as offers update shared

Portsmouth have been linked with a handful of exciting players since the summer transfer window opened.

Gambian striker Abdoulie Manneh is perhaps the hottest prospect linked with a move to Fratton Park.

The Mjallby AIF forward has been lighting up the Swedish Allsvenskan with six goals in 13 appearances this season.

This has led to speculation of Manneh securing a move to England, with Pompey one of many sides reportedly interested in signing him.

Portsmouth target Manneh is open to summer transfer

Portsmouth have been monitoring the form of Manneh for some time.

Mjallby AIF are open to hearing offers and the player would be excited to move to England, according to The Portsmouth News (6 May).

However, it would appear that the Blues are rank outsiders to land the Gambian as a permanent signing.

That’s because he would prefer to move to a Premier League club, and the likes of Bournemouth, Brighton, Burnley and Wolves are all interested in making it happen.

The only hope of Manneh putting on a Pompey shirt, it is claimed, would then be if a Premier League club loaned him out to the Championship after signing him.

Manneh is only 20 years old and has no experience playing in a major European league, so an initial loan deal might be on the cards if he does move to England.

In the meantime, Portsmouth would be well advised to look elsewhere for permanent signings to add to their attack.

Portsmouth were linked with a move to re-sign Jamal Lowe this week, although other media outlets have since rubbished that news.

Summer transfer window will be crucial to Pompey progress

Mjallby AIF reportedly value Manneh at £4.2million despite his lack of experience in a major European league.

Portsmouth have continued to monitor the Gambian in spite of that hefty price tag.

That’s an encouraging sign for Pompey fans. The Blues have continuously been labelled as the club with one of the smallest budgets in the Championship, but perhaps there is a significant fund to spend on the right player in the right circumstances.

With big-spending Birmingham and Wrexham being promoted, it could be an even tougher fight to remain in the division next season.

So, the Blues might deem it necessary to spend big to ensure they don’t get dragged into another relegation battle.

As things stand, no new recruits have arrived at Fratton Park this summer, but there is clearly work going on behind the scenes to try and change that.
