Yengi set for European football as talks begin with new club after Portsmouth exit
Kusini Yengi has begun his search for a new club after being released by Portsmouth.
Australia international Yengi was let go by Pompey after struggling for form and fitness this season.
Although Yengi was prolific for the Blues in League One, many fans agreed that the step up to the Championship was too much for him.
However, it now seems as if he could be playing European football next season, either in the Europa League or the Conference League.

Aberdeen are in talks to sign Yengi
Scottish Cup winners Aberdeen have begun talks with Yengi with a view to bringing him to Pittodrie.
Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph shared the update via X on Saturday (7 June), adding that Yengi is keen on the move.
As a reward for winning the Scottish Cup, the Dons are guaranteed to feature in the league stage of either the Europa League or the Conference League next season.
They will feature in a play-off match at the start of August to decide which competition they play in.
That means Yengi could potentially be pitting his wits against some of the giants of European football next season.
He would need to improve on his showing in the Championship this season though. The Australian failed to trouble the scoresheet in 14 appearances for the Blues.
Yengi deserves another shot at the big time
Yengi has blamed his injuries for not securing a new deal at Portsmouth. He was sidelined during four separate spells this season.
The 26-year-old made a quick transition from Australian football to help the Blues lift the League One title in 2024. He scored 13 goals in that season and will always be remembered by the fans for that.
Appearances | Minutes Played | Goals | Assists | |
2023-24 | 31 | 1199 | 13 | 2 |
2024-25 | 14 | 534 | 0 | 0 |
There was one crucial goal away at Peterborough in that season which many fans are reminiscing about now that Yengi has left the club.
If he goes on to bang in the goals for another European club, it’s unlikely that any of the Fratton Faithful would begrudge him for that.
In fact, Aberdeen could turn into many Pompey fans’ favourite Scottish side if Yengi signs, given his popularity at Fratton Park.
Who would bet against him scoring a worldie against Aston Villa and proving the Pompey hierarchy wrong for selling him?
