Aberdeen fans all say the same thing after Yengi announcement

Portsmouth look set to revamp their first-team squad as they prepare for the upcoming season in the Championship.

John Mousinho’s men did well to secure a 16th-place finish this year after being promoted as League One champions.

Yet, a fair amount of ins and outs are expected as Mousinho aims to build a squad to climb up the second tier.

Aberdeen fans react to Yengi signing announcement

Kusini Yengi is one player who won’t be seen in a Portsmouth shirt next season. He was released by the club following the expiry of his contract.

Australian striker Yengi was a popular figure at Portsmouth, and he received a lot of well-wishes after posting his official farewell on social media.

It hasn’t taken him long to find a new club, either.

On Sunday (8 June), Aberdeen announced the signing of Yengi on a free transfer.

However, it’s fair to say that the Dons supporters aren’t too excited about the deal. Many have taken to X to express their concern at Yengi’s lack of goals in the Championship last season.

One fan described the signing as “drivel” and another called it a “real worry”. A third browsed Yengi’s goal record and asked whether he was a centre-half.

Yengi deserves another chance to prove himself at high level

Yengi scored zero goals in 14 appearances for Pompey this past season, but his goal record doesn’t tell you the whole story.

The 26-year-old struggled with various injuries throughout the campaign and blamed his fitness problems for not securing a new deal.

Many Pompey fans came to Yengi’s defence on X, suggesting that he would be a good signing.

Their main argument was that he was prolific in League One and this is the level of most Scottish Premiership teams.

With that said, Aberdeen are also guaranteed to compete in Europe this season as a reward for winning the Scottish Cup.

They will either compete in the Europa League or the Conference League, depending on the result of their playoff match in August.

It would certainly be fascinating to see Yengi lining up against some European giants in the Europa League next season.
