Hayden sends three-word message after Portsmouth contract news

Portsmouth are preparing for a busy summer after securing their place in the Championship for another season.

There have been no new signings at Fratton Park since the transfer window opened at the start of June, with it now temporarily closing again.

That might worry some fans, particularly after several players were released and all loan signings were returned to their parent clubs.

Nevertheless, communications from the likes of John Mousinho and sporting director Rich Hughes suggest that the club will be active in the transfer market this summer.

Hayden responds to Ben Killip contract news

Portsmouth confirmed on Tuesday (10 June) that goalkeeper Ben Killip has signed a new two-year deal at Fratton Park.

Many supporters seemed underwhelmed by the news, with some taking to social media to suggest that Killip isn’t good enough for Portsmouth.

However, Isaac Hayden is one man who shares the opposite view.

Hayden played with Killip during his season-long loan at Portsmouth this year and would have witnessed his performances in training every day.

The Newcastle midfielder took to his Instagram to share his opinions on Killip’s new contract on Pompey’s post about the new deal.

“Well deserved mate,” he said.

Pompey need a busy transfer window to establish themselves in Championship

Portsmouth did fantastically well to secure a 16th-place finish in the Championship this season.

The squad went on a remarkable run of form toward the back of the campaign to safety with two games to spare.

However, they have lost the likes of Hayden and Freddie Potts in their midfield. If the Blues fail in their pursuit to bring Rob Atkinson back, that will also be a huge loss.

It all means that Portsmouth have a lot of work to do in the transfer window to ensure the squad remains as strong as this season.

A new contract for Ben Killip is useful, although he’ll surely remain an understudy to Nicolas Schmid.

What the fans want to see is the signing of an established player who will strengthen the first XI.

There has been no such news so far. Hopefully, Mousinho can bring in at least two or three before the Championship season begins in August.
