Kusini Yengi ‘can already help Portsmouth seal new transfer’ weeks after exit

Kusini Yengi struggled to cope with the step up to Championship football this season with Portsmouth.

The Australian was previously a shining star for John Mousinho’s men in League One, but injuries stagnated any hope of progress in the second tier.

Although the Blues had the option to extend the forward’s contract for another season, after failing to score in the campaign, they made the decision to let him leave Fratton Park.

The decision got a mixed reception as, while understandable, the 26-year-old is a popular figure on the South Coast, already moving to Aberdeen.

Now John Mousinho is ready to make up for that, though, with a new Australian star on the radar.

Portsmouth look to sign Adrian Segecic

Portsmouth have to be creative when it comes to their transfer business this summer, working with one of the smallest budgets in the Championship.

With the sides that have come down from the Premier League, alongside the promotion of Wrexham and Birmingham City, the competition is growing more and more fierce.

With that in mind, Pompey have been backed to use the foreign markets to their advantage this summer, knowing that the possibility of less competition and cheaper transfers could pay off.

In fact, the recruitment of Yengi from down under seemingly started a trend at Fratton Park.

Jacob Farrell, Hayden Matthews and Thomas Waddingham were all Australians on the books at Portsmouth last season, and Mousinho is ready to try out the A-League once more.

It has been reported that following a breakdown in a deal to sign for Rapid Vienna, Portsmouth want to sign Sydney FC star Adrian Segecic.

The forward finished the season as the joint top scorer in the league and subsequently played for the ASEAN all-star team that beat Manchester United.

The 21-year-old forward is said to be available on a free transfer.

Mousinho hoping to have new Yengi

Although Yengi was extremely popular among the supporters at Fratton Park, his form in the Championship this season has not been good enough.

While that is not purely his own fault, with injury issues hurting his momentum, Portsmouth cannot afford to keep any players on the books that they can’t be certain will perform to the desired levels.

However, if the services of Segecic can be secured for Mousinho next season, he will be hoping that supporters can fall in love with a new Australian in the final third.

There is no reason for Pompey not to push hard to try and strike this deal which should give a strong boost ahead of the new Championship season.

Yengi is the example to follow for Segecic, and he could do just that and make a name for himself in blue at Fratton Park.
