Portsmouth fans split as Segecic transfer news emerges – ‘Get him in’
Portsmouth continue to look to strengthen ahead of their second season back in the Championship.
If John Mousinho wants to replicate the success from last season and keep Pompey in the division, reinforcements are needed.
With Portsmouth having limited resources in comparison to other sides in the Championship, the Blues have to get creative when it comes to their recruitment.
Adrian Segecic could become the latest arrival from the Australian A-League at Fratton Park, joining the likes of Jacob Farrell, Hayden Matthews and Thomas Waddingham.

Pompey fans divided over Segecic
Portsmouth have also been linked with John Swift as another potential option for Mousinho’s side, with the former West Brom star a more Championship-proven player than Segecic.
Segecic, 21, was one of the best players in Australia last season, being the A-League’s joint top goal scorer for Sydney FC.
The versatile youngster is available on a free transfer with his contract at his current club set to expire.
Following a collapsed move to Rapid Vienna in Austria, Portsmouth are said to be one of the teams interested in signing Segecic.
Pompey supporters on X reacted to the rumours regarding the potential new signing.
Some supporters seemed to be excited to see Segecic on the South Coast, whilst others were underwhelmed at the prospect of signing another player from Australia.
Swift v Segecic dilemma for Mousinho
Mousinho will have a lot to consider if he has to choose between bringing Swift or Segecic to Fratton Park.
League stats 2024/25 | John Swift | Adrian Segecic |
Age | 29 | 21 |
Appearences | 36 | 24 |
Minutes played | 1756 | 1349 |
Goals | 3 | 13 |
Assists | 1 | 2 |
Portsmouth would not have to pay a transfer fee for either man, with both players also offering versatility in forward areas.
Despite Swift having a disappointing season at West Brom last campaign, he has proven to be able to have exceptional seasons at Championship level.
Segecic, on the other hand, is more of an unknown commodity in English football, but is coming off an exceptional year in the A-League.
Being 21, you would assume there is more room for growth in Segecic as a player as opposed to Swift, with his age an attractive proposition for an older squad.
If Segecic were to thrive at Pompey, the Blues would likely be able to demand a sizeable fee for any future sale of the player, which is certainly something to watch.
