Portsmouth to sign ‘next Conor Chaplin’ as Segecic medical update emerges

Portsmouth are closing in on Adrian Segecic as John Mousinho looks to make his first signing of the transfer window.

The Australian had a fantastic 2024/25 campaign as he finished as the top scorer in the A-League and netted 18 goals in all competitions.

However, the Sydney FC attacker is out of contract in the summer, which has increased speculation on his future.

Portsmouth are now closing in on the 21-year-old as Mousinho aims to add the attacker to his squad imminently, with Segecic already completing a medical at Fratton Park.

Fans overjoyed as Portsmouth close in on Segecic

Reports emerged on Tuesday that Portsmouth are set to win the race for Segecic.

The attacker will sign a long-term deal at Fratton Park as Pompey beat various sides across the globe for his signature.

Segecic is set to become the fourth Aussie at Portsmouth as Mousinho establishes a solid contingent at the South Coast club.

Now, that the news has broken, many Pompey fans are thrilled, with one even suggesting that they have finally got their “Conor Chaplin replacement”.

However, many Portsmouth fans are also hopeful that Segecic can stay fit after numerous other Aussies in the squad have struggled with injuries since their move to Fratton Park.

Pressure will be on Segecic to stay fit at Portsmouth

Through no fault of his own, pressure will be on Segecic to remain fit as Portsmouth in his first few months.

Many of the Australian contingent at Fratton Park have struggled with injuries, with Jacob Farrell only playing one game since he signed for Pompey.

Now, fans will be demanding that Segecic stays fit, or it may prove that signing players from Australia simply does not work for Mousinho.

If the attacker can stay away from the sidelines, he will be an excellent asset for the South Coast club, who can provide a consistent goal threat.

However, this is no doubt dependent on his ability to adapt quickly to the Championship.
