Portsmouth ‘won’t have to wait long for Segecic’ as new developments emerge

Portsmouth fans are eagerly waiting to hear about new signings ahead of the 2025-26 Championship season.

There have been no new faces through the door at Fratton Park since the summer transfer window opened on 1 June.

But the wait could soon be over, following new developments in the club’s pursuit of Adrian Segecic.

Segecic wants to make transfer decision imminently

Portsmouth were linked with a move for Sydney FC forward Segecic earlier in June, although an official bid hasn’t been placed.

This won’t be a transfer saga that drags out for the whole summer, though.

The News (16 June) reports that Segecic is keen to make a decision on his future in the next few days.

So, if he does fancy a move to the South Coast, the deal could be finalised before the club returns to pre-season training.

Pompey aren’t the only club interested in signing Segecic. The 21-year-old has caught the eye of several European teams, having scored 18 goals in 35 appearances for Sydney this season.

Still, it’s believed that the player will decide on his future based on the progression of his career, rather than who can offer him the most money.

That’s good news for John Mousinho, who has helped to develop several Australian players from the A-League during his time as Portsmouth manager.

Segecic signing would be a good start to the transfer window for Portsmouth

There has been a lot of hype about Segecic arriving at Fratton Park since Portsmouth’s interest was announced.

Perhaps the prospect of signing a 21-year-old from the Australian A-League wouldn’t have excited too many fans a year ago.

However, Mousinho has since proven that the top players from that league can also hang with the best in the Championship.

Australian duo Hayden Matthews and Thomas Waddingham have both enjoyed bright starts to their Portsmouth careers, although both were sidelined by injury after a few games.

Still, it’s currently looking like a smart bit of business to bring these players in.

Segecic may well look at the opportunities afforded to these fellow Aussies and decide that Portsmouth is the best destination for him.

Will Segecic become the third Australian protege in Portsmouth’s squad? It appears we’ll know in just a few days.
