Saydee exit imminent at Portsmouth as Wigan Athletic ready double deal

Christian Saydee could be preparing to say goodbye to his Portsmouth team-mates this week.

Although the 23-year-old made 29 Championship appearances for Pompey last season, just 10 of those were from the starting line-up.

Wigan Athletic are keen on his services as part of a double poach, and the South Coast could soon be in his rear-view mirror.

Wigan pencil in Saydee medical

John Mousinho needs to upgrade his squad in preparation for his side’s second consecutive season in the Championship next term.

However, with one of the smallest budgets in the league, he will have to work wisely alongside Michael Eisner to bring the right faces in.

With that in mind, the Blues may need to cash in on some players and given Saydee isn’t likely to emerge as a first-choice option under the boss, it could be him who makes way.

This comes after Alan Nixon has reported via his Patreon (18 June) that Wigan Athletic are close to striking a deal for Saydee.

The report states that the forward is set to undergo a medical on Wednesday (18 June) before finalising his move up north.

Saydee is said to have been chased by multiple clubs this summer, but it is the Latics who have the money to secure his services.

Ryan Lowe’s side are also looking at bringing in Paul Mullin after his Wrexham exit in a double deal that’d massively strengthen their attack.

Portsmouth to cash in on Saydee

Given that Saydee is about to enter the final year of his contract this summer, if Portsmouth can cash in at this stage it is a perfect time to say goodbye.

After a disappointing 15th-placed finish in League One last season, Wigan will be eager to push further up the table next term and therefore push the boat out in their recruitment.

With that in mind, Pompey can use this as a way to secure a deal with Wigan which will also generate funds that Mousinho can reinvest in his own squad for next term.

Saydee has not been prolific at Portsmouth.

Saydee has never hit too many in the back of the net for the Blues, so they can certainly afford to let him go for a deal that could benefit all parties.

Meanwhile, with experience in being promoted from League One already with the Blues, Wigan will be hoping he can bring some similar luck to them.
