Exclusive: Why Alexander Robertson’s father has been spotted at Portsmouth
Alexander Robertson’s father is serving as a mentor for new Portsmouth signing Adrian Segecic, Pompey News can exclusively reveal.
Pompey announced Segecic’s arrival from Sydney FC earlier this week, with the 21-year-old Aussie signing a three-year deal at Fratton Park following the expiration of his contract in New South Wales.
He’s the fifth player to join the Blues from the A-League in the last couple of years, joining former Sydney teammate Hayden Matthews, as well as Jacob Farrell and Thomas Waddingham on the South Coast.
Kusini Yengi also joined Portsmouth from Western Sydney Wanderers in July 2023, but he’s since signed for Aberdeen.

Portsmouth fans pine for Robertson return after Segecic unveiling
Alexander Robertson is also an Australian player who’s recently been at Portsmouth.
He spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Fratton Park from Manchester City, helping Pompey win the League One title.
However, despite many fans wanting the 22-year-old Australia midfielder to stay in John Mousinho’s squad, he was sold by Man City to Cardiff City, who have since been relegated to the third tier.

Portsmouth fans are now excited to see Alexander’s father Mark on the South Coast at the unveiling of Segecic as their first signing of the summer transfer window.
Robertson shared an image of himself and Segecic in front of a blue backdrop with the caption: “Just two randoms in Portsmouth.”
It led to The News reporting that “for some unknown reason, he was at Fratton Park on Wednesday evening”.
Well, Pompey News can reveal the reason.

Mark Robertson acts as Segecic mentor to make Portsmouth move easier
“Adrian Segecic is my number one person to try and help at the moment,” Robertson told Pompey News. “He’s just made a big move from the other side of the world, so I’m helping him and Zac Sapsford, who’s just signed for Dundee United. He’s another striker from Australia.
“I’m not an agent, I’m basically just a mentor.
“For those people who were wondering why I was there last week with Adrian was purely just to be by his side and help him settle.
“It’s just a mentorship and off the back of that, you will see the player is able to perform at his best because he’s got the support of a former international player who’s been there, done it and had the t-shirt.”
Robertson is a former Australia international who moved from Sydney-based side Marconi Stallions to the UK in 1997 to play for Burnley. His career also saw him play for Swindon, Dundee, St Johnstone, Stockport, Perth Glory and Sydney FC.
He’s now a freelance director of sports performance after previously working as a sports specialist for the City Football Group.
