‘Andre Dozzell is finished at Portsmouth’ with Baptiste transfer on cards
Andre Dozzell had an inconsistent first season at Portsmouth after signing last summer.
The midfielder played an important role in Pompey’s survival campaign as they finished 16th in the Championship, after arriving for nothing.
However, Dozzell had multiple poor performances for Portsmouth in the heart of midfield.
Now, his time at the South Coast club may be coming to an end as John Mousinho targets Shandon Baptiste.
Baptiste signing could spell the end of Dozzell
Portsmouth are now looking to sign Baptiste this summer.
The midfielder had been a Premier League regular at Brentford up until last season, when he became part of the Luton Town squad that was relegated to League One.
The 27-year-old was injured for much of this campaign and only made 17 appearances. However, he still clearly has quality and would easily become one of Portsmouth’s best players.
Therefore, if Pompey do sign Baptiste, Dozzell’s run at the South Coast club will surely be coming to an end, especially as a consistent starter.
While Dozzell did extend his deal at Portsmouth this summer, he only has a year left on his contract.
Mousinho may look to cash in on the midfielder come January if he fails to cement a spot in the starting XI at Fratton Park.
Given his inconsistent displays, this wouldn’t be surprising as Portsmouth cannot afford any room for error going into the new campaign.
Baptiste is exactly the type of signing Portsmouth need
After a successful campaign last season, Portsmouth have to build upon their recent achievements, and this starts in the transfer market.
There is no doubt that Baptiste would improve Pompey’s starting XI, with the midfielder having exceptional experience.
If Portsmouth can pull it off, he could be the signing of the summer in the Championship if the 27-year-old can remain fit.

This is exactly the type of player Mousinho needs to be looking at as he could end up transforming the club into a top-half side.
Hopefully, Portsmouth will make an official move for Baptiste over the coming days to get the signing over the line, ahead of any competition.
