Callum Lang jokes with Josh Murphy after new Portsmouth image
Portsmouth fans will be looking forward to seeing Callum Lang back in full flow this season.
The former Wigan star has been a revelation for Pompey in the Championship, racking up 10 goals by February, when a torn hamstring derailed his campaign.
Lang played a bit-part role in Portsmouth’s final three games, and will now work on regaining peak fitness as the playing squad return for pre-season.

Lang reacts to new Portsmouth merchandise
Lang was recently asked to model Portsmouth’s latest offering of retro merchandise: the 1992 home shirt and tracksuit jacket.
The jacket received a noticeably polarising reaction from Pompey fans on social media. However, the playmaker made his views on the release clear in a recent Instagram post.
He posted one of the promotional images of himself and Josh Murphy in the jacket, joking: “Sell out surely”.
Portsmouth fans have also been calling for Lang to be offered a new contract on social media, with his current deal running out in 12 months.
If he starts this season as well as he did the previous one, these calls will surely only get louder.
A busy transfer window is key for Portsmouth progression
Portsmouth have their top stars like Lang returning to full fitness, but it’s widely agreed that new signings will be needed if they are to avoid a relegation scrap this season.
Adrian Segecic has been signed on a free transfer, which represents a solid start to the transfer window. The Australian may well be competing with Lang for a place in the starting XI.
2024-25 statistics | Segecic | Lang |
Appearances | 35 | 33 |
Minutes Played | 1956 | 2469 |
Goals | 18 | 10 |
Assists | 3 | 2 |
Even so, John Mousinho will be looking to recruit more new faces.
A centre-midfielder or two is likely to be Mousinho’s priority, since loan signings Freddie Potts and Isaac Hayden have returned to their parent clubs.
A new centre-half could also be targeted to replace loan star Rob Atkinson as well.
Portsmouth will have one of the lowest transfer budgets in the Championship, no matter how many retro jackets their fans buy, so Mousinho will need to be savvy in the transfer market.
The squad returned to pre-season training this week, and it’s hoped that some new faces will join them soon.
