Portsmouth impacted by Sky Sports announcement ahead of 2025-26 fixture release

Portsmouth fans will soon find out when their side will face each Championship team, with the fixtures set to be released on Thursday.

John Mousinho is aiming to improve on the South Coast club’s 16th-place Championship finish last season.

Therefore, Portsmouth will need a better start compared to last season, when they were only able to win one of their first 14 league matches.

However, with Pompey signing Adrian Segecic, and more signings set to follow, there is a real hope from the Fratton Park faithful that they can kick onwards and upwards.

Portsmouth’s first Championship game set to be shown live

The Championship fixture release on Thursday (26 June) will no doubt excite Portsmouth fans.

Pompey will finally learn when they will play teams such as Southampton in what is a long-awaited clash.

On top of the Saints, five new sides have entered the second tier, which are likely to be big fixtures when they come around.

However, one issue fans have is TV selection, with many games being moved to be broadcast live.

Now, Sky Sports has announced, as per The Guardian (25 June), that all opening EFL games will be shown live, including Saturday 3pm kick-offs.

This is because the Premier League does not start until the week after the Championship begins, meaning that the blackout is not in play.

This should allow many Portsmouth fans to watch the game even if they are not able to attend either Fratton Park or the away ground.

Mousinho needs to start the upcoming campaign well

It is no secret that Portsmouth’s awful start to the last campaign almost cost the South Coast club survival.

However, now that many of the players have adapted to the second tier, this cannot be allowed to happen.

Portsmouth had an awful start to the 2024/25 campaign

Mousinho has to have a good start to this season, or he may find himself under early pressure.

With the teams coming up from League One being particularly strong, Pompey could find themselves in another relegation battle if they have a slow start.

Hopefully, Portsmouth will be given a kind fixture list to start with to help Mousinho gain some momentum.
