Portsmouth ‘make surprise approach’ as Kepa to free up Arsenal exit
Portsmouth would not have been expected to add another goalkeeping option to their ranks this summer.
First-choice keeper Nicolas Schmid has been excellent for Pompey since his move from Austrian side Linz last summer, and has already become a reliable Championship shot stopper by the end of his first season in English football.
The 28-year-old’s impressive displays have been ably supported by the duo of Ben Killip and Jordan Archer.
With Killip having recently penned a new deal at Fratton Park, few would have expected John Mousinho to dip into the market for another option between the posts.
However, Mousinho and Co. are now keeping tabs on another potential option, as a result of movement in the Premier League.

Portsmouth make approach for Arsenal’s Karl Hein
Mousinho has heaped praise on Schmid on numerous occasions, and the gloveman certainly played a significant role in the south coast outfit’s successful survival fight.
However, he could be about to face even more competition for his shirt next season, with Portsmouth having made an approach to sign Arsenal youngster Karl Hein, according to Sports Boom (25 June).
The Gunners are set to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea, which has opened the door for Hein to exit Emirates Stadium.
The 23-year-old spent last season on loan at Spanish side Real Valladolid, and could be available this summer for as little as £1million.
There are currently a host of Championship sides who are eyeing a move for the Estonian international. Preston and QPR have both made enquiries about his services, while Pompey have also lodged a surprise approach to sign him.
Hein’s arrival would spell the end for Archer
Archer was a capable deputy when called upon last season, but if Hein was to arrive at Fratton Park, then it would surely spell the end of the 32-year-old’s time at the club.
The Arsenal academy graduate is a highly-rated young keeper who is ready to progress further after establishing himself as a starter in La Liga last term.

Given that Mousinho already has three senior goalkeepers at his disposal, if Hein were to come in it would surely mean one of Pompey’s current contingent would be shown the door.
Hein would be expected to challenge Schmid for the number one spot, and with Killip having recently penned a new deal, Archer would surely be the likely fall guy.
The former QPR and Millwall man’s contract has just one year left to run, but he could have his time with Portsmouth cut short this summer.
