Expectations are high at Fratton Park this summer as John Mousinho looks to build on his recent success.

Southampton is no doubt the most eye-catching fixture, as Mousinho prepares to face his rivals for the first time.

Portsmouth set for early Southampton showdown

Portsmouth and Southampton have a massive rivalry. The two South Coast clubs have barely played each other in recent years after Pompey’s fall down the divisions.

However, after Mousinho returned Portsmouth to the Championship, the derby is set to be renewed this September.

The Fratton Park faithful will travel to St. Mary’s for the first clash on 13 September, with the reverse fixture taking place on 24 January.

The Saints fixture follows a mixed start for Pompey, with an away day at Oxford United starting their campaign.

Portsmouth’s match against Oxford United is set to be shown live on Sky Sports.

Norwich City then travel to Fratton Park before fixtures against West Brom and Preston.

A fast start is imperative for Mousinho if he is to overcome Southampton in September.

Momentum could be key for Portsmouth as their date with destiny is locked in.

Mousinho will no doubt see many of their opening four fixtures as winnable before their match against the Saints, and Pompey must follow up this expectation with results.
