Portsmouth ‘ready something special’ as ambitious Mattsson deal lined up
Portsmouth are looking to strengthen their midfield ahead of next season.
Portsmouth recently confirmed their first summer signing as Adrian Segecic became the latest Australian to arrive at Fratton Park.
With multiple clubs interested in the youngster, Pompey were able to fend off the competition to secure his signature.
The South Coast club will have to do the same again if they want to sign their latest midfield transfer target to replace the departing Isaac Hayden and Freddie Potts.

Portsmouth linked to Danish midfielder Pelle Mattsson
Some Pompey fans may have been left deflated after news came out that John Swift would not be returning to Fratton Park on a free transfer.
Portsmouth look to be sticking to their guns and recruiting from abroad this summer.
And Pelle Mattsson could be the latest product of this transfer strategy to arrive at Fratton Park.
According to reports from Bold (26 June), Portsmouth are in the running to sign the Danish midfielder from Silkeborg IF, while other Championship clubs are also circling.
Mattsson, 23, has indicated that he is ready to take the next step in his career, with the Championship providing the platform he is looking for.
A deal for the midfielder will not be easy, with the same reports stating that Silkeborg’s sporting director, Jesper Stuker, has said it will take “something special” to sell Mattsson, but the club are open to making a sale.
Mattsson has been a regular in the Silkeborg team for four seasons now and has established himself as one of their key players.
Pelle Mattsson | Danish Superliga stats (2024/25) |
Appearences | 26 |
Goals | 2 |
Assists | 4 |
Interceptions per game | 1.3 |
Tackles per game | 2.3 |
Balls recovered per game | 5.9 |
The hard-working Dane, whose strengths revolve around his tackling and ability to win ground duels, could provide the metal for John Mousinho’s midfield for next season.

Mattsson could push through his move to Fratton Park
Bold also reported that Mattsson informed Silkeborg that he does not want to extend his contract with the club as he seeks a move away.
If Mattsson is intent on leaving, helping to push through a move could force Silkeborg to sell whilst they can still demand a respectable fee, allowing Pompey to secure their man.
It may require “something special”, but if Portsmouth are serious this summer then they will get a deal done.
