Portsmouth news round-up: Player bid incoming as Cullen makes new transfer admission
Portsmouth have been relatively inactive in the transfer market so far this summer, but that could be set to change.
John Mousinho is keen on strengthening his squad after a promising first season in the Championship, and reinforcements will be needed all over the pitch.
Portsmouth will again battle against some tough teams to try and remain in the second division, and more quality would be welcomed.
Pompey News has now rounded up the latest developments from the past 24 hours, with one player targeted and the club’s transfer strategy explained.

Portsmouth to face PEC Zwolle in friendly
Portsmouth are set to host some pre-season friendlies at Fratton Park this summer, and it has been announced that they will face Dutch side PEC Zwolle.
The game will take place on Saturday, August 2, one week before the Championship season kicks off again, and will provide tough opposition for their preparation.
Portsmouth pre-season fixtures | Date |
Woking (A) | 15 July |
Farnborough (A) | 16 July |
Crawley (A) | 19 July |
Reading (A) | 26 July |
Havant and Waterlooville (A) | 29 July |
PEC Zwolle (H) | 2 August |
PEC Zwolle finished 10th in the Eredivisie last season, and will provide interesting opposition for the Pompey fans in attendance.
Portsmouth likely to miss out on Nectarios Triantis
Sunderland sensation Nectarios Triantis has spent the last two seasons on loan at Scottish side Hibernian, and he is now attracting interest from several clubs, including Portsmouth.
However, it now appears that despite Portsmouth being keen on the midfielder, they may not be able to sign him this summer.
It is reported that Triantis wants to stay at Sunderland and fight for his place in pre-season, meaning that any move would have to happen after, and that is if they still want to let go of him.
Portsmouth to make offer for Griffin Yow
Portsmouth are now keen on Westerlo star Griffin Yow, who featured for the USMNT at the Olympics.
The winger has been impressive in the Belgian top flight, and is expected to leave this summer, while Pompey are set to make an offer for him.
However, USMNT fans are not too keen on seeing the 22-year-old move to the Championship, with some believing that he could play at a higher level.

Andy Cullen makes loan admission
Portsmouth CEO Andy Cullen has now opened up on the club’s transfer strategy, and has now admitted that more loan signings could arrive at Fratton Park.
‘There was previously an overreliance on loans, which was more about the spending of a higher proportion of the budget on loans,” he stated.
“The volume and number of loans aren’t necessarily a problem if you have the right sort of level and the right balance in terms of your squad.
‘That has been the strategy we have been operating with. We had loans last season, we used loans when we won the League One title, that doesn’t change. Inevitably, we will also have loans this season.”
More loan signings can be expected this summer, and fans will hope they are as successful as Freddie Potts was last season.
