‘Portsmouth make approach to sign Griffin Yow’ as Cullen hints new signing close
Portsmouth have started the transfer well by signing Adrian Segecic, and are reportedly closing in on more new players.
The South Coast club are aiming to build on last season’s 16th-place finish in the Championship and looks well placed to do so, especially if they progress with their pursuit of Griffin Yow.
The American winger is an exciting young talent and would add a new type of attacking threat to Pompey’s squad.

Portsmouth make an approach to sign Yow
It emerged on Tuesday (1 July) that Pompey were keen on Yow.
The 22-year-old was on great form in the Belgian Pro League last season with Westerlo, scoring eight goals and providing three assists.
He has played for the United States at the Olympics and will have his eye on a place in the national team for the 2026 World Cup.
A solid season in the Championship will surely aid his cause, and Belgian football website Voetbalnieuws.be reports that Portsmouth have approached Westerlo to try and sign him.
The news comes shortly after chief executive Andy Cullen predicted that Pompey would make at least one more signing before they fly out to a training camp in Bratislava this weekend.

Portsmouth will have to be savvy in the transfer market
Portsmouth have one of the smallest transfer budgets in the Championship, but Yow fits the mould for the type of player that John Mousinho is targeting.
He’s young, unproven in a major European league, but with the potential to grow into a world-beater.
Appearances | Minutes Played | Goals | Assists |
33 | 2179 | 8 | 3 |
These are the types of players that Mousinho will have to take a punt on, given the club’s financial situation.
The Pompey boss has a track record of spending well in the transfer market, so there will be a lot of expectation on Yow if he does arrive at Fratton Park.
He would certainly pose a different threat to Matt Ritchie on the right wing for Portsmouth. Ritchie offers industriousness and intelligent passing. Yow can provide raw flair. He likes to take on defenders and is no stranger to hitting a worldie from outside the box.
Fans in the United States are aware of Yow’s talent and are keeping a keen eye on him. Portsmouth supporters would be right to hope that he is the imminent transfer that Cullen was hinting about.
