Portsmouth must seal deal for ‘perfect Freddie Potts replacement’ now after updates
Portsmouth’s midfield has been left bare after Isaac Hayden and Freddie Potts returned to their parent clubs from Fratton Park.
The duo were the perfect combination of young talent and experience in Pompey’s battle to avoid relegation last season.
Portsmouth must wait to hear about any potential deal regarding Potts returning from West Ham, but in the meantime, there is a perfect replacement waiting in the wings.

Nectarios Triantis would be ideal for Mousinho and Portsmouth
With Portsmouth’s limited budget, Mousinho will be looking to make smart additions this summer.
Pompey have already signed Australian Adrian Segecic ahead of the next campaign, and as they tackle a tough transfer window, they could again dip into the market for players from Down Under.
In recent weeks, the Blues have been linked with a move for Sunderland midfielder Nectarios Triantis.
The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Hibernian from the Black Cats and impressed, having struggled in England.
Triantis was selected to represent Australia in March and has also regularly represented their under-23s in the last two years.
Sunderland are reportedly not short of offers for the midfielder, with Hibs interested in signing the Australian permanently.
However, having struggled for gametime in the Championship for Sunderland, the lure of regular gametime in the English second tier could convince Triantis to make the move.
The strong Socceroos connection at Fratton Park would also be useful in trying to convince the young star to make the move to the south coast.
It’s understood that Triantis is expected to join the Sunderland squad for pre-season, but it is likely he will leave this summer after the Mackems’ big money signings.

Portsmouth must make big investments this summer
If Pompey are to have any hopes of landing Triantis this summer, they will likely have to spend seven figures.
SPFL stats 2024/25 | Nectarios Triantis |
Matches | 34 |
Goals | 3 |
Assists | 6 |
With one of the lowest budgets in the Championship, Portsmouth could struggle to justify paying so much for an unproven midfielder at that level.
However, if Portsmouth are to become a stable club in the second tier, they must start investing and stop leaving themselves short.
The loss of Potts and Hayden has shown just how difficult it can be to replace loan players, but you have to move on eventually and now is the perfect time.
