Rich Hughes speaks out as Portsmouth make exciting announcement

Portsmouth have continued to grow both on and off the pitch in the last few years.

Since the Eisners have taken over the club, Pompey have been promoted from League One to the Championship and established themselves as a force in this league.

During that time, several investments have been made to improve the quality of the experience for players, staff and fans alike.

Portsmouth announce partnership with Frazer-Nash

The latest improvement made by the club involves a partnership with local engineering consultancy Frazer-Nash.

Frazer-Nash has worked closely with Portsmouth’s coaching staff to streamline performance data collection and enhance communication between players and coaches with regards to this data.

Feedback was given on video analysis, player development, on-field training and general communication from coaches.

The implementation of Power BI dashboards in Pompey’s training ground will help to automate the flow of this data, giving coaches more time to focus on developing players.

Speaking to the club’s official website as the announcement was made, Portsmouth sporting director Rich Hughes declared that the club were looking forward to continuing this collaboration in the future.

He said: “As an innovative club we value linking with pioneering companies, developing our understanding of where cutting-edge technology can take us and the benefits it can bring.

“Frazer-Nash’s support has helped us sharpen our processes, challenge our assumptions and ultimately create more time for our staff to coach and connect with players.”

The Frazer-Nash consultancy office is based in Cosham, around five miles away from Fratton Park.

Investing in innovative technology has become crucial to high-level football clubs

Investing in advanced data technology is no longer optional in modern football.

It seems as if every high-level football club now employs staff or agencies to collect and interpret data on player performance.

Indeed, some clubs are making transfer decisions based purely on data-driven insights.

SeasonLeague Position

2023-241st in League One
2024-2516th in Championship
Portsmouth have slowly been moving up the football league

In a sport where the margins are razor-thin, the ability to quantify performance can be the difference between winning and losing.

That’s why Portsmouth must keep up with the latest trends in data collection. This data can be leveraged to assess players with far greater accuracy and develop them better.

As exciting as it can be for fans to hear about the club buying a foreign superstar like Adrian Segecic or expanding Fratton Park, it should be just as pleasing to hear Pompey making investments like this. It’s these types of tools that can allow the Blues to outpace rivals and build long-term success.
