Kamara transfer ‘falls into Portsmouth’s lap’ after events at Hull City

Portsmouth fans have longed after Abu Kamara ever his successful loan spell at Fratton Park in 2023-24.

The young winger helped Pompey earn promotion to the Championship during that season-long loan, contributing eight goals and ten assists.

Last summer, the Blues were priced out of a move as he signed for Hull City in a transfer worth £4.5million.

It was hoped that Kamara might return to Pompey if Hull were relegated, although realists insisted his asking price would still be too high.

However, that might be about to change following the latest news coming out of Hull.

Hull City given transfer embargo due to unpaid debts

Hull are set to be issued with a transfer embargo due to their unstable financial situation.

The Tigers owe more than £1m to Aston Villa to cover the wages and loan fee for Louie Barry, who was on loan at the MKM Stadium at the back end of last season and helped to keep them in the Championship.

This unpaid debt will prompt the EFL to block Hull from signing players for the next three transfer windows. The embargo is expected to be officially announced later this week.

This is terrible news for Hull, who only survived relegation by drawing with Portsmouth on the last day of the season.

Kamara homecoming would be a dream transfer for Portsmouth

It’s common for star players to seek transfers in situations like this.

Indeed, Hull may be forced to offload some talent at bargain prices to meet their financial obligations.

Portsmouth fans will know that only too well, having suffered the consequences of administration in the early 2010s.

However, the Fratton faithful will now hope to be the beneficiaries of another club’s financial troubles.

Kamara would be a fantastic addition to the Portsmouth squad, which is a little light on wingers.

He would provide ample competition for Matt Ritchie on the right wing, although he is capable of playing on the left as well.

John Mousinho is a huge admirer of Kamara, and you imagine the club will at least enquire to see if a deal is available.

However, it’s entirely possible that Hull will refuse to play ball, especially with a club that they would consider a direct rival.
