Robertson joins from Cardiff in double deal – Portsmouth’s dream July transfers

John Mousinho is expecting a busy month of transfers as he prepares his team for another season in the Championship.

The Portsmouth boss says the club is targeting another five or six signings after recruiting Australian playmaker Adrian Segecic on a free transfer.

Alex Robertson signs a permanent deal at Fratton Park

Australian midfielder Alex Robertson wowed Mousinho and the Fratton faithful during a loan spell at Portsmouth in 2023-24.

Robertson made 27 appearances for Pompey that season and dominated the midfield before a hamstring injury ended his campaign early.

The 22-year-old broke Portsmouth hearts when he opted to sign for Cardiff last summer, but that decision appears to have backfired as the Bluebirds were relegated.

This has led to rumours of Robertson returning to Fratton Park.

Portsmouth need new two or three centre-midfielders in their squad, and it would be ideal if Robertson was one of them.

It’s a deal that Mousinho and most Pompey fans would love to happen, although Cardiff would likely demand a significant fee for their midfielder.

Abu Kamara homecoming would delight Portsmouth fans

Abu Kamara is another player that Mousinho hasn’t forgotten about after a successful loan spell in 2023-24.

The young winger played a full season at Fratton Park on loan from Norwich, helping Pompey win promotion with eight goals and ten assists.

Portsmouth sought a permanent transfer but were priced out of a deal, as Hull City gazumped them with a £4.5million bid to Norwich.

Kamara endured a frustrating season at Hull, who only survived relegation by securing a draw against Portsmouth on the final day of last season.

Hull have since fallen on hard times. They are expected to be issued a transfer embargo as a result of their unpaid debts. This could result in Kamara being allowed to leave in a cut-price deal.

The 21-year-old would be a fantastic addition to Mousinho’s squad. He can play on either wing, will run his heart out and is a constant goal threat.

However, it remains unclear if Hull would be willing to sell to a rival club in the Championship.
