Portsmouth confirm Bull transfer as manager buzzing to get deal complete

Portsmouth have secured the signing of Jazz Bull on a permanent basis.

After joining Portsmouth Women on loan for the second half of last season from Bristol City, Bull has now made the move to the South Coast permanently.

Bull featured 10 times for Portsmouth last campaign and played a vital role in keeping Pompey in the WSL2, where they avoided the drop by six points.

Bull, 22, has also represented Scotland Under-23s international level, with her latest call-up coming in March.

Jay sadler thrilled to welcome Bull to Portsmouth permanently

Supporters of Pompey’s men’s and women’s teams will be frustrated that loan players who thrived at the club last season, like Rob Atkinson and Freddie Potts, look unlikely to join Bull at Portsmouth permanently.

Portsmouth boss Jay Sadler, who did an outstanding job at helping the Blues avoid relegation last season, was delighted to be bringing the defender to PO4.

In the announcement posted on Portsmouth’s website (5 July), Sadler said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have Jazz join us permanently. She played a huge part during her loan spell.

“She’s a tenacious full-back with relentless energy, real quality on the pitch, and natural leadership. She is exactly the type of character we want in this group.”

Pompey managed to upset the odds and avoid relegation last campaign.

Signing a player who has already proven to be able to thrive in Sadler’s system is a wise piece of business ahead of the new season, with Bull joining Pompey on a two-year deal.

Portsmouth aiming to keep both teams in the second tier

With exciting signings like Adrian Segecic joining the men’s side, Portsmouth have shown to have bigger ambitions than to merely just survive in the second tier.

Like the men’s team with Potts, Pompey Women have been handed a transfer blow of their own.

Captain Hannah Haughton is leaving the club after initially signing back in 2018.

Replacing the shot stopper will be vital if Portsmouth want to avoid a relegation as intense as the one that happened last season.

Six more players have also been confirmed to be leaving Sadler’s side, including Nicole Barrett and Annie Rolf, meaning it will be a year of drastic overhaul for the Blues and staying up again could prove to be an even tougher task.
