Nicolas Schmid reacts as Portsmouth officially announce new contract
Nicolas Schmid had an impressive debut season for Portsmouth as he earned his first senior international call-up along the way.
The goalkeeper previously represented Austria at several youth levels, but being part of the senior squad showed just how well he has played.
John Mousinho’s side are now stepping up preparations for next season as the transfer window heats up ahead of their opener at Oxford United.
Pompey will have to accelerate their summer plans after falling behind in the transfer window, and Schmid has now reacted to their latest squad announcement.

Schmid reacts to new contract
Pompey have made just one signing this summer in Australian winger Adrian Segecic.
The Blues still need to replace Christian Saydee and Kusini Yengi after the pair were offloaded earlier this summer, despite being senior options.
It’s not all bad news for Pompey, as academy product Harry Clout has signed his first professional contract on the south coast.
Portsmouth announced on Instagram that the young talent has been rewarded for his progress, with Schmid reacting with a like.
Clout was brought on as a substitute in Portsmouth’s FA Cup 3rd round defeat to Wycombe Wanderers last January.
The 18-year-old winger has also featured as an unused substitute in Championship games against Luton, Middlesbrough and Bristol City.
Clout has previously been described as the “poster boy” for the Portsmouth Academy, and Mousinho has been full of praise for the youngster.
Schmid is a masterstroke signing that Pompey must replicate
After impressing last season, Schmid is a clear example of how Portsmouth’s transfer strategy can work.
Championship 2024/25 | Nicolas Schmid |
Appearences | 35 |
Saves made | 105 |
Saves per game | 3.0 |
Assists | 2 |
However, after such a slow start to the summer window, they must now look to start strengthening their team.
Fratton Park chief executive, Andy Cullen, recently revealed that the Blues are emphasising signing players from abroad this summer.
Portsmouth have one of the lowest budgets in the Championship, so making unknown signings from abroad is a necessary risk.
However, fans will start getting more frustrated if Pompey fail to make any signings soon.
