Portsmouth have ‘long-term strategy’ after Copnor Road disruption – Exclusive

Portsmouth are busy making improvements across all areas as they embark on a second successive season in the Championship.

John Mousinho guided the Hampshire side to safety with games to spare, but they are ensuring they make progress behind the scenes at Copnor Road.

Perhaps the biggest positive from the summer so far is the fact that Mousinho is on board with Portsmouth’s long-term project despite links elsewhere.

With Pompey looking forward to meetings with Southampton once again, they are making sure their facilities are up to standard.

Portsmouth have sizeable ambitions amid developments

Portsmouth recently announced a partnership with local engineering consultancy Frazer-Nash to streamline performance data collection and enhance communication between players and coaches.

Furthermore, the Fratton Park club have invested funds into improving their training facilities, with the new pitch settling in, meaning pre-season training started elsewhere before the Slovakia trip.

Football finance expert Dan Plumley – speaking exclusively to Pompey News – has provided insight on the situation, as they protect their investments.

“Of course, you’d want to be in there straight away for pre-season, and I understand the disruption in terms of the players and the environment,” he said.

“You want everything to be perfect as soon as you get back into pre-season mode, but there is a long-term strategy there, and what that investment can do to you in those facilities over the years to come.

“There is a protection, therefore, of financial asset that you’ve got, and that’s what you’re looking at here in terms of well, if it’s not quite ready, let’s not risk it, we can, we can find a workaround and it’s very much a long-term strategy.

“Also, of course, we have to be mindful of that, the time period between when the season ends and starts is a tight window anyway, so to get something done, it’s a tricky window to do it because the time frame’s really short.”

Pompey to cement progress on the field next season

Next season promises to be an enthralling one, with the likes of Birmingham City and Wrexham joining the Championship.

On top of that, the relegated Premier League trio will be in strong positions to secure an instant top-flight return, just like Burnley did last season.

With so many big clubs, Portsmouth will have to improve if they want to establish themselves as a Championship mainstay.

However, with Mousinho at the helm, supporters will believe they are well-placed to move up the table.
