Mousinho tells another Portsmouth player he’s free to find a new club

Portsmouth manager John Mousinho has told a member of his squad that he’s free to leave the club this summer.

Mousinho and his squad have returned from their pre-season training camp in Bratislava and will now enjoy a small break before their schedule of pre-season friendlies begins on 15 July.

However, there’s one player who seems unlikely to take part.

Tom McIntyre has been told he’s free to find another club

Earlier in July, Mousinho had suggested that some centre-halves may leave Portsmouth this summer.

A few days later, Ryley Towler was packing his bags after sealing a move to Lincoln.

Now, Tom McIntyre has been told that he won’t get much playing time at Fratton Park this season and is free to look for another club.

McIntyre was loaned out to Charlton Athletic last season, and although he did well in League One, it seems Mousinho has made up his mind about the Scot.

In an interview with The News (10 July), he said: “It’s one where we had a chat with Tom at the end of last season about his situation and, if he can find something, we’d be absolutely fine with that.”

Mousinho has a history of speaking candidly about the futures of his players. Earlier in the summer, he made similar sentiments about Christian Saydee, who sealed a move to Wigan a few days later.

Portsmouth have also decided to make it public that Matt Ritchie will be allowed to leave this summer.

Portsmouth are well stacked at centre-half as new Championship season approaches

It won’t surprise many Portsmouth fans that McIntyre is being allowed to leave.

He made a few appearances at the start of last season, but Mousinho appeared to come to a quick verdict on his ability to perform in the Championship.

It looks like Pompey will have four solid options at centre-back going into the new season. Regan Poole and Conor Shaughnessy might be the first-choice pairing, although Hayden Matthews and Ibane Bowat might have something to say about that. Jordan Williams can also slot into that position if needed.

Mousinho might need some new faces further forward though. He’s noticeably short of centre-forwards having let go of Saydee and Kusini Yengi, while two centre-midfielders and a winger to replace the outgoing Ritchie will also be needed.

Portsmouth’s first pre-season fixture is away at Woking on 15 July.
