‘Portsmouth complete no-brainer John Swift transfer’ after Mousinho demand
John Swift may be announced at Fratton Park soon after signing for Portsmouth this summer transfer window.
The ex-West Brom star completed his medical in Hilsea as the Hampshire outfit hope to assemble a competitive squad for next season.
With the Fratton Park faithful sharing mixed reactions regarding Swift, John Mousinho arguably won’t be worried about it.

Swift no-brainer for Portsmouth as Mousinho prioritises midfield transfer
Swift’s singing is a no-brainer for Portsmouth in the ongoing transfer window, Neil Allen says.
The News journalist believes the Hampshire outfit haven’t taken a gamble with the 30-year-old’s arrival on a free transfer.
Neil feels Mousinho was referring to the English attacking midfielder’s arrival as he prioritised bolstering the middle of the park.
Speaking on Pompey Talk (14 July), the journalist said: “You’ve got to be encouraged by this signing. It’s a free transfer, hugely experienced player, quality player at this level. He’s not a gamble, he’s someone who can play in the here and now and strengthens the position which desperately needs strengthening.
“Mousinho said last week it was a priority to strengthen the midfield, and he alluded to a signing coming in. He was clearly referring to Swift.
“I think it’s a no-brainer. He’s got the natural affinity and affection for Pompey and the city. I think it’s a great move and we’ll see how it pans out on the pitch.”
Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Championship | 36 | 3 | 1 |
Swift spent three seasons at West Brom and played a key role at The Hawthorns, but fans in B71 aren’t too bothered about losing him.
The demands at the Baggies were different in the previous campaign as they were challenging for a play-offs spot.
As for Pompey, they will hope to avoid being in a relegation battle this time around, and Josh Murphy’s success after signing as a free agent serves as an example for them.
Portsmouth need more transfers for Mousinho this summer
Portsmouth have only signed Adrian Segecic from Sydney FC for now, and they undoubtedly need several more additions ahead of next season.
Pompey lost the likes of Freddie Potts, Adil Aouchiche, Christian Saydee and Kusini Yengi, and Rich Hughes has a big task on his hand to replace them.
The Hampshire outfit clearly need to bolster their squad if they hope to make progress in the Championship in the upcoming campaign.
Mousinho won’t want to face similar difficulties as last season, where the Blues were forced to strengthen their team in January as they risked relegation.
Swift represented a market opportunity for Portsmouth, and they did well to convince him to help bring joy to Fratton Park in the coming months.
