Kosznovszky agent speaks out as lawyers involved over Portsmouth signing

Portsmouth are looking to ramp up their recruitment drive with the new Championship season just a few weeks away.

The Blues confirmed the signing of John Swift on Tuesday (15 July) and are still in the hunt for Danish midfielder Pelle Mattsson.

What’s more, they’re also closing in on Hungarian midfield star Mark Kosznovszky.

Kosznovszky’s club MTK Budapest says he’s ‘very close to an agreement’ with Portsmouth

Portsmouth’s pursuit of Kosznovszky has been like Wi-Fi in a cheap hotel; on, then off, then on again.

The Hungarian was being tracked by Swansea and Sheffield United. For a while, he seemed destined to join one of Pompey’s rivals.

Now, the sporting director of his club MTK Budapest says that the player is closing in on a deal with Pompey.

According to M4 Sport, Balázs Polyák said: “We are very close to an agreement, and I believe that this will come to light in the coming period. The details still need to be ironed out, the contracts are being negotiated between the clubs and lawyers.”

Polyák confirmed that Portsmouth were the only team to make a bid deemed satisfactory by MTK Budapest and Kosznovszky himself.

The transfer fee paid by Portsmouth is believed to be around £1.3million, although a significant portion of that will be add-ons based on the player’s performance.

Kosznovszky could solve Portsmouth’s midfield problems

It’s no secret that Portsmouth have been hunting for centre-midfield players during this transfer window.

John Mousinho mostly relied on loan signings Freddie Potts and Isaac Hayden last season, but both have returned to their parent clubs.

He’s now brought in Swift who is capable of playing in a number 8 role, so the arrival of Kosznovszky could potentially solve Portsmouth’s midfield problems.

As well as these two signings, Mousinho has Marlon Pack and Andre Dozzell to place in his engine room.

In an ideal world, Pompey would be able to recruit Mattsson as well. The Dane looked destined to sign for Norwich, but that deal is now in danger of falling through.

The future would look a lot rosier for Portsmouth with these deals being confirmed. The first team squad is shaping up nicely.

A right winger and a centre-forward may also be required, but any transfers completed on top of those would likely be seen as a bonus.
