Portsmouth backed to seal ‘stunning hijack to sign Danny Ings’ – Exclusive
Portsmouth could make a surprise approach to sign Danny Ings this summer.
The 32-year-old is available on a free transfer, having left West Ham at the end of his contract after a difficult spell in claret and blue.
Now, a move to the Championship appears to be on the cards, with a switch to Fratton Park potentially coming into sight ahead of the new campaign.
This could see John Mousinho make a move to land the former England international, despite a high level of interest in his signature.

Ings could join Portsmouth on free transfer
With Colby Bishop leading the line, there is no doubt that the PO4 outfit have a positive starting number nine after 11 second-tier goals last season.
Regardless of this, it has to be said that the introduction of an experienced head in the striker position wouldn’t go amiss.
There aren’t many better options out there right now than Ings, available for nothing this summer in what could represent a real coup on the south coast.
As a result, it is little interest that Middlesbrough have shown a keen interest in landing Ings, but a hijack could be on the cards as former Pompey midfielder Martin Allen believes a deal would be excellent for Mousinho and Co.
Speaking exclusively to Pompey News, Allen said: “Danny Ings can still play well in the Championship. If given the chance, he will score goals.
“The pace of the Premier League had become just too much for him. Saying that, he always got chances and always came close to scoring.
“Start him in the Championship, and you will get 15 goals minimum.
“He’d be a good signing for my old club, Portsmouth, definitely. He will be a good signing for whoever gets him.“

Ings could transform Portsmouth
There is no getting away from the Englishman’s links to Southampton, but if he could put those aside, then so should Pompey fans.
With 72 Premier League career goals, it is fair to say that the former Aston Villa man could be the difference between places in the final Championship table.
Stat (Premier League) | Danny Ings |
Appearances | 240 |
Goals | 72 |
Assists | 24 |
If Mousinho can help to maintain Ings’ fitness level, the striker could prove to be lethal alongside other star names like Josh Murphy and Callum Lang in Blue.
It will now be interesting to see if the PO4 club can beat Boro to a deal as Rob Edwards looks to bring the forward to the Riverside.
