Portsmouth announce new No 1 as squad numbers revealed

Portsmouth have confirmed their squad’s shirt numbers for the new season.

The Blues are hoping to build on a positive return to the Championship, after John Mousinho’s side finished 16th.

But with just five points separating Pompey from the relegation zone, fans at Fratton Park will hope a positive summer window can set the team up for a push towards the top half.

John Swift and Adrian Segecic have arrived so far, with further signings expected in the coming weeks.

Portsmouth confirm new number for Schmid

Portsmouth have confirmed that goalkeeper Nicolas Schmid has been given the number one shirt following the departure of Will Norris, who left the club by mutual agreement in February.

New signing Segecic has been given the number 10 shirt, made available following Kusini Yengi’s move to Aberdeen after the expiration of his contract.

Freddie Potts wore the number eight shirt last season for Pompey, but his return to West Ham has allowed the arriving Swift to take the number.

Young centre-back Hayden Matthews, who arrived in January from Australian side Sydney FC, has also inherited a new number – taking the number 14 shirt that was worn by Liverpool loanee Kaide Gordon for the second half of last season.

Ibane Bowat has also received a new number, moving to the number 17, while youngster Reuben Swann has been assigned the number 28.

Following the news of Matt Ritchie’s impending departure, goalkeeper Ben Killip has claimed the Scot’s number 30 shirt.

Academy product Harry Clout has also been given a first team number, taking the 41.

And of course, the number 12 remains dedicated to the Portsmouth fans.

Portsmouth numbers still available

There remains several attractive numbers available in the Portsmouth squad.

The number four has been freed up by Ryley Towler’s move to Lincoln City, and the number 11, worn by loanee Mark O’Mahony last season is also available.

The number 15, often taken by midfielders, is available after Christian Saydee’s exit to League One club Wigan Athletic.

Pompey fans will hope new faces arrive in the coming weeks to collect the remaining numbers ahead of the new season.
