‘Portsmouth get it totally wrong’ as fans trolled by Fratton Park activity

Portsmouth have done so much good in the past few seasons under John Mousinho.

There was a point where it looked like Pompey were going to be stuck in the depths of League One and Two forever.

That has all changed under the 39-year-old, as a mid-table finish or even higher feels like a real ambition moving into the new Championship campaign.

With that being said, some positivity has been sucked out of supporters in the past 24 hours after what’s gone on in and around Fratton Park.

Fratton Park, home of Portsmouth

Portsmouth let fans down with new kit release

It is fair to say that the excitement surrounding the new strip for the 2025/26 season had been growing as fans awaited an announcement.

They were finally given a release date, with the PO4 faithful waiting patiently for 8am on Friday 18 July for the release of the shirt.

Ahead of this, images had emerged from Fratton Park, which showcased branding that seemingly related to the famed 1997-99 design with a red and white collar.

This certainly raised expectations on the south coast, with many hoping to see a modern take on this well-loved shirt among Blues supporters.

As a result, it came across as a sick joke to see the new kit be released with nothing more than a typical blue and white Nike template at Portsmouth once again.

This has genuinely let fans down, and although there was no communication that these posters outside the ground related to the kit, their timing was certainly ill-advised in hindsight.

Nike frustrate Portsmouth with bland kit launch

Pompey have had so many excellent kits in years gone by, but since swapping Sondico for the US giants, designs have been largely boring.

Some have been simple, clean and good on the eye, with last season’s effort being remembered for some excellent moments from the likes of Josh Murphy and Co.

With that being said, fans were genuinely hopeful of a new shirt that paid homage to one of the favourite designs of the last 30 years.

It will certainly be interesting now to see how Mousinho’s side will look on their travels next campaign, as supporters now timidly await the away and third shirt’s release.
