Alfie Whiteman ‘to seal Portsmouth transfer’ as exit on cards after new SOS
Alfie Whiteman could be next through the door at Portsmouth as transfer activity springs into life.
John Mousinho has already welcomed John Swift and Adrian Segecic into his squad as the Blues look to build on the positive momentum of their first season back in the second tier.
Mark Kosznovszky looks to be another incoming player on the verge of arriving at Fratton Park, with the Blues seemingly holding off interest from Blackburn to secure the midfielder’s signature.
The goalkeeping department has also become a priority for Mousinho, with the Blues’ boss wanting four goalkeepers in his squad.
Now, the door has opened for Whiteman.

Whiteman to join Pompey after major Archer update
Whiteman featured for Portsmouth on trial in their pre-season friendly against Woking after the goalkeeper was released by Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the summer.
With Mousinho’s desire to have four shot stoppers for training purposes, Whiteman looked set to secure a contract at Fratton Park.
However, a recent development regarding Jordan Archer may have increased his chances even further of making the move to the South Coast.
According to The News (19 July), Archer has garnered interest from League Two Salford City.
With their season just two weeks away, Salford do not have a senior goalkeeper on their books, making signings in that area an obvious “SOS” priority.
Archer, 32, made two Championship appearances last season and appears to have fallen behind Ben Killip in the pecking order as Pompey’s second-choice goalkeeper.
With Archer entering the final year of his contract and Killip recently signing a new two-year deal on the south coast, it is evident who Mousinho currently views to be his second choice behind Nicolas Schmid.

Pompey could leverage Salford’s desperation against them
With Archer’s contract expiring next summer, banking a fee for him in this transfer window would be smart business for the Blues.
In his place, Mousinho could bring in Whiteman and another keeper on a free, to get the four players he desires for the position.
Given how desperate Salford are for a goalkeeper, Pompey could leverage this in negotiations and perhaps receive a larger fee than initially anticipated.
During Archer’s cameo appearance against Cardiff back in October, the Scotsman proved he still has what it takes to play at a reasonable level.
Playing regular football at the backend of his career may be appealing to Archer, whilst Pompey can complete another piece of shrewd business.
