Preston told to pay more as Callum Lang transfer update drops at Portsmouth
Portsmouth fans have been startled by news that Preston have bid for Callum Lang.
The Blues have reportedly rejected a bid of £2million for Lang, but that hasn’t stopped fans debating on social media about the former Wigan man.
The general sentiment among Pompey fans is that their playmaker is worth far more than what Preston have bid for him.

Preston fans convinced that Lang wants to sign for them
Lang tore Championship defences to shreds last season, and it should be no surprise that other clubs are interested in him, particularly as he only has a year left on his Pompey contract.
However, many Pompey fans are questioning why their star player would want to join Preston, who finished below them last season. Paul Heckingbottom’s side were still in danger of getting relegated going into the final day of the campaign.
Still, Preston fans are convinced that Lang wants to join them. That’s mostly because an ‘in-the-know’ supporter has said so on one of their popular forums.
This source suggested that a swap deal may be on the cards, although it’s not clear which of Preston’s players are admired by John Mousinho.
This rumour has done the rounds on social media with plenty of Portsmouth fans keen to add logic to the conversation.
I’m confident you don’t meet the value we want.

Lang is being undervalued by Preston
If Portsmouth were to sell Lang, it would represent a huge profit compared to what Pompey paid Wigan for him in January 2024.
If the Blues are to progress and establish themselves as a Championship club, they will sometimes need to sell their star players at a profit.
Of course, they will also need to replace these stars to ensure they remain competitive on the pitch.
But it will be tough to replace Lang for £2m.
Appearances | Minutes Played | Goals | Assists |
32 | 2455 | 10 | 2 |
The 26-year-old was one of the most reliable playmakers in the division last year. He’s proven at this level. The going rate for a player like that is much higher than £2m.
If Preston doubled their bid, Portsmouth may accept it. It would be tough to see him go, but many fans would understand the necessity of accepting that money.
However, £2m is chicken feed in today’s transfer market. It’s almost insulting. Pompey fans are right to be up in arms about the prospect of selling Lang for such a low fee.
