Kosznovszky signs – Which midfielder Moushino could axe at Portsmouth
Mark Kosznovszky looks set to sign for Portsmouth after a turbulent transfer race.
Portsmouth and MTK Budapest came to an agreement on a fee for Kosznovszky earlier this week after he impressed in Hungary.
The 23-year-old is set to follow John Swift and Adrian Segecic through the door at Fratton Park as Pompey finally start to make some moves this summer.
However, Kosznovszky’s signing for the Blues could spell the end for one key Portsmouth midfielder.

Marlon Pack could make way for Kosznovszky next season
There had been a fear that fellow Championship side Blackburn would hijack the move for Kosznovszky, with Sheffield United also credited with an interest in the Hungarian.
However, the midfielder now looks almost certain to sign for Pompey for around £1.3million, with the Blues possibly now having to sell to fund further incomings.
As reported by Karoly Por on X (22 July), Kosznovszky will leave MTK Budapest and travel to England this afternoon ahead of undergoing a medical at Portsmouth and signing his contract.
Marlon Pack has been crucial on the south coast in recent seasons, but his age could be a stumbling block next campaign.
Whether Mousinho sanctions an exit for his captain remains to be seen, but the Portsmouth-born midfielder will no doubt find his gametime more limited next season.
Club | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
---|---|---|---|
Bristol City | 283 | 12 | 24 |
Cheltenham | 145 | 16 | 14 |
Portsmouth | 119 | 8 | 16 |
Cardiff | 109 | 5 | 10 |
Dag & Red FC | 17 | 1 | – |
Wycombe | 9 | – | – |
At 34, Pack may be utilised as a rotation player with Pompey’s lack of depth and the midfielder’s wealth of experience adding to the perfect pitch for him to be kept on at Fratton Park.
However, it feels guaranteed that Pack will be playing second fiddle next season, and he may not be keen on playing that role.
Pack could start a player/coach role
With Pack’s playing career nearing an end, he could hold a player and coach hybrid role next season.
The 34-year-old would be useful towards helping young players come through the Pompey academy and develop into first-team players, a journey he has experienced himself.
Mousinho has already shown he can be ruthless with his unwanted players when he axed Matt Ritchie from the side, and Pack will be looking to avoid a similar finish at his hometown club.
