Mark Kosznovszky to jet in for medical as Portsmouth close in on new transfer

Portsmouth are closing in on a deal to sign Mark Kosznovszky from MTK Budapest.

Following the departures of loan players such as Freddie Potts and Isaac Hayden, midfield became an obvious area in which John Mousinho needed to reinforce over the summer.

Pelle Mattsson previously looked to be a top target for Pompey; however, Norwich seem to be the most likely destination if he were to move to England.

With a fee in the region of £1million-plus said to be agreed, Kosznovszky looks set to arrive at Fratton Park to bolster the Blues’ midfield.

Kosznovszky to fly to England ahead of Pompey medical

Pompey look to have held off Blackburn’s attempt to hijack a deal for the 23-year-old, following a nervy few days for supporters.

According to Karoly Por on X (22 July), Kosznovszky will leave MTK Budapest and travel to England this afternoon ahead of undergoing a medical at Portsmouth and signing his contract.

With new arrival, John Swift, already impressing in midfield so far in pre-season, Mousinho could be assembling a new-look spine that can replicate recent success in the area.

Kosznovszky looks to be a well-rounded addition to Mousinho’s engine room.

With Adrian Segecic potentially being used as a more attacking midfielder, Pompey’s side looks to be coming together nicely as they look to build upon their successful return to the Championship.

Pompey cannot afford to lose Lang despite addition of Kosznovszky

Another attacking midfielder in Pompey’s ranks is Callum Lang, who is coming off the back of an exceptional campaign, despite injury.

Lang has been the subject of a £2million bid by Preston that was quickly rejected by the Blues.

Bringing Kosznovszky to the south coast whilst selling a key player to a Championship rival would have been one step forward and two steps back.

Andy Cullen and Co. look set to wisely keep hold of Lang, who Pompey supporters will be hoping to see play on the same side as Kosznovszky in one of their remaining pre-season fixtures.

Then, it is all eyes on another huge Championship season.
