Portsmouth may have say in Thomas Muller’s next club after confirmed transfer
Portsmouth fans are getting excited to see Adrian Segecic in competitive action following his impressive pre-season performances.
Segecic scored his first Pompey goal in the friendly against Woking and has looked sharp in every game.
The Australian playmaker was top goalscorer in the Australian A-League last season and looks set to be a regular starter at Fratton Park.

Sydney FC aim to replace Segecic with Germany and Bayern Munich legend Thomas Muller
Several clubs were fighting to sign Segecic but the youngster said he was excited to work alongside John Mousinho, as well as Australian teammates such as Hayden Matthews and Thomas Waddingham.
It should be fascinating to see if he can replicate his goalscoring form from the A-League in the Championship.
The mission to replace Segecic at Sydney FC is a compelling one to track as well. The Australian side have been linked with a bold move for Germany and Bayern Munich legend Thomas Muller.
Muller, 35, started his career at Bayern Munich in 2008 but was released by the German champions this summer after 17 years.
He is now looking for a new club, and the Sydney Morning Herald (23 July) reports that Sydney FC are fighting to sign him.
It means that Portsmouth may well have a say in where Muller potentially ends his legendary playing career after snapping up Segecic.
Segecic remains unproven but expectations are high among Portsmouth fans
The contrast between Portsmouth signing Segecic and Sydney FC potentially signing Muller is interesting.
The former is a young buck with bags of potential ready to prove himself in one of Europe’s bigger leagues. The latter is a football legend who has won it all ready to drop down to a lower-quality league for his swansong.
Player | Age | Appearances | Goals |
Segecic | 21 | 46 | 14 |
Muller | 35 | 692 | 232 |
Although Segecic is unproven outside of Australia, there still seems to be a lot of hype surrounding him already.
That will be partly due to the ability that Portsmouth’s other young Australian stars have shown when they have played.
His performances in pre-season will also have played a role. He looks sharp on the ball with a good football brain and a keen eye for goal.
The pace and intensity of the game will step up once the competitive action begins in August. Portsmouth fans will be praying that Segecic is up for the challenge.
