Southampton slammed as ‘insane’ Portsmouth announcement made

Portsmouth’s rivalry with south coast neighbours Southampton will be renewed after they secured Championship survival last season.

Southampton and Portsmouth have not faced each other in a league game since 2012, but they will finally come face-to-face again soon, with a trip to St Mary’s Stadium on 14 September.

John Mousinho’s side will come up against Will Still’s team following their relegation from the Premier League, but Southampton fans have been left fuming about the latest ticket announcement.

Southampton supporters left confused by ticket update

The first South Coast derby of next season has been confirmed to be taking place at midday on 14 September.

Portsmouth will be up against it as they travel to face Southampton in what will be a hostile atmosphere, with Still’s side looking for an immediate return to the first tier.

Mousinho’s side will also be looking to make a charge next campaign, with their squad finally starting to take shape with the arrivals of Aiden Segecic and John Swift.

Pompey have already been handed an advantage in the tie, with Saints’ fans fuming with the club’s announcement that fans must buy a ticket for one of their other fixtures before being able to buy one for the South Coast derby.

Southampton supporters must also be a club member and have a previous purchase history, purchasing at least one competitive match between the 2020/21 season and the 2024/25 season.

The announcement has left Pompey’s rival fans in disarray, with many supporters bound to avoid the game due to the conditions.

One supporter branded the decision “insane”, while another said it was a “joke” of an announcement.

Portsmouth have hope for tough test against Southampton

The latest from the Blues’ neighbours will give Pompey fans hope that they can test Southampton.

Their rivals are coming off the back of a very downbeat season compared to Mousinho’s side, who defied the odds to stay up in the Championship.

With Mark Kosznovszky’s expected arrival from MTK Budapest, the Fratton Park faithful can expect their squad to have much-needed strength in depth by the time they travel to Southampton.
