Portsmouth fans turn detective to identify Luke Le Roux as potential new signing
Portsmouth fans on social media are seemingly desperate for their club to announce some new signings.
Portsmouth have already signed Adrian Segecic and John Swift on free transfers, but supporters are hungry for more confirmed transfer news.
Some fans on X have even indulged in their own impressive form of investigative journalism to identify a potential new arrival.

Le Roux could be next Portsmouth signing
Portsmouth are still short on centre-midfielders, and Pompey fans have identified Luke Le Roux as a potential candidate to fill that gap after some impressive social media sleuthing.
It all started when a blurry image of an unidentified man leaving a Portsmouth hotel was posted by a Reading fan.
The fan in question was asking whether it was Harvey Knibbs, who has recently been linked with a move to Fratton Park.
Some Portsmouth fans went the extra mile to identify the man as Le Roux, a South African midfielder, who currently plays for IFK Varnamo.
That was enough for the ‘Le Roux to Pompey’ rumours to start doing the rounds on X.
And if that detective work wasn’t impressive enough, one fan has taken it to the next level, scouring Le Roux’s Instagram following list and supposedly finding club chef Tom Buckwell.
That discovery is apparently enough proof that Le Roux could be the next Pompey star. ‘Announce it’, the fan said in his caption.
Pompey are right to be patient in their hunt for new signings
John Mousinho has said that Portsmouth could have easily signed six or seven new players by now if they had felt the need to do so.
Instead, they are adopting a patient approach and only when they’re sure they have a target who could significantly improve the squad.
Of course, that’s the right approach to building a football club.
Player | Former club | Fee |
Adrian Segecic | Sydney FC | £0 |
John Swift | West Bromwich Albion | £0 |
While some fans would prefer that Pompey progress like they’re playing Football Manager with the cheats enabled, that will only end in disaster.
With such a small transfer budget, it’s imperative that Pompey are picky in the transfer market. Segecic and Swift are widely regarded as fantastic signings. It’s surely better to find a couple more like that than a dozen players who are no better than the existing squad.
It remains to be seen whether Le Roux is the next man deemed worthy of a place in Mousinho’s squad.
