‘Kamara next’ after Portsmouth sign Le Roux and Kosznovszky

Portsmouth delighted fans on Friday by completing the double signing of Mark Kovznovszky and Luke Le Roux.

Kovznovszky was signed from MTK Budapest, while Le Roux arrived from the Swedish side IFK Varnamo.

Both play in the centre of midfield, where Portsmouth were widely believed to need reinforcements.

That’s now four signings made by John Mousinho during this transfer window, following the arrivals of Adrian Segecic and John Swift earlier this summer.

Portsmouth still look short of attacking threats

Portsmouth were always going to focus on strengthening the heart of their midfield during this transfer window.

At the back end of last season, Mousinho relied on loan signings Freddie Potts and Isaac Hayden there, but both players have returned to their parent clubs.

This gaping hole in the centre of Portsmouth’s team has now been filled with reinforcements, but the squad still seems short of attacking threats.

Colby Bishop and Thomas Waddingham are the only out-and-out strikers remaining in the first-team squad, with the latter still short of experience in English football.

Josh Murphy is a guaranteed starter on the left wing, but there’s no obvious back-up for him, while Pompey are also short of options on the right now that Matt Ritchie is destined to leave.

These are the positions that Mousinho will surely now focus on improving.

Abu Kamara signing would complete the dream transfer window

Portsmouth haven’t been linked with many strikers during this transfer window.

Given the club’s small budget, any recruit may have to be happy playing second fiddle to Bishop. Perhaps an up-and-coming youngster from the Premier League will be targeted on loan.

There is an obvious target on the right wing, though, and that’s former loanee Abu Kamara.

Kamara’s stats with Portsmouth

Kamara wowed the Fratton faithful during the 2023/24 season, scoring 10 goals and providing 11 assists that helped Pompey claim the League One title.

Portsmouth tried to sign Kamara on a permanent deal last summer, but were outbid by Hull City.

However, Kamara may now be available to buy from Hull, given their financial issues.

The Tigers will likely want a sizeable fee for him, but if Mousinho could negotiate a deal, it would complete a perfect transfer window for the Blues.
