Marlon Pack ‘to say his goodbyes’ after Portsmouth transfer announcement
Portsmouth fans are buzzing after the club announced the signings of two midfield stars in one day.
Mark Kosznovszky and Luke Le Roux both signed three-year contracts at Fratton Park on Friday (25 July).
Portsmouth’s squad was short of centre-midfielders at the start of the summer, but John Mousinho has filled that gap by signing these two young stars and John Swift.
However, this recruitment drive may leave some fans questioning the future of Pompey captain Marlon Pack.

Pack future called into question after Portsmouth’s double signing
Pack has been a brilliant addition to the Portsmouth squad since re-signing for the club in July 2022.
He is a fantastic influence behind the scenes and remains one of the best passers of the ball in the squad.
However, the signings of Kosznovszky and Le Roux might signal the beginning of the end for the Pompey skipper.
Pack turns 35 this season and has a year left on his Portsmouth contract. These signings have clearly been made with a view to eventually replacing him.

Mousinho has a decision to make about Pack’s future
Mousinho has praised his captain this summer and insisted that he still has a role to play this season.
However, that was before he signed three younger players who all play in the same position.
Mousinho has always been honest with the players who aren’t in his immediate plans. Fans have seen that with the likes of Ryley Towler, Christian Saydee and Matt Ritchie this summer. The former two have been sold, while Ritchie looks destined to follow them.
There’s every chance that the Pompey boss will be having a similar conversation with Pack soon, if he hasn’t already.

In an ideal world, Pack will stay for the opening months of the season. Le Roux and Kosznovszky are unproven in English football and could be bedded in slowly, allowing Pack to earn some playing time.
However, the Portsmouth-born midfielder isn’t the type to be content sitting on the substitutes’ bench every week. So, if Mousinho’s new signings turn out to be as good as he hopes, Pack might be preparing to say his goodbyes sooner rather than later.
