Portsmouth have straightforward decision after Kamara transfer reveal

Portsmouth have seen their summer transfer window explode into life over the last few weeks.

The South Coast outfit have moved quickly to bolster their ranks on several occasions lately, after they had spent several weeks with Adrian Segecic standing as their sole new addition.

Portsmouth reached an agreement to bring John Swift back to his boyhood club, and they have since followed that up by finalising deals for both Mark Kosznovszky and Luke Le Roux.

John Mousinho’s side face tighter financial constraints than most of their Championship rivals, but that hasn’t stopped them from finding effective ways to build on the squad that kept them up last time out.

Portsmouth have easy decision to sell Abdoulaye Kamara

Portsmouth’s summer hasn’t passed without some bumps, with Matt Ritchie’s imminent exit serving as a major blow to their ambitions.

Another player who has been linked with a departure from Fratton Park before the new campaign gets underway is Abdoulaye Kamara.

The wideman made just five Championship appearances last term, and it appears as if he could be on his way out in the next few weeks.

Mousinho recently provided an update on the state of his squad, and he was quick to suggest to The News (28 July) that Pompey are receiving interest in the 20-year-old.

He said: “I am pretty sure there is interest (in Kamara), whether we are close to doing anything, I don’t know.

“Now we are getting close to the season, and clubs start to properly look at where they are with their squads, I will be very surprised if there’s not more interest.”

Given the glances that Kamara is seemingly attracting, Pompey surely now have a simple decision on their hands.

He hardly played at all last season, and given the depth that Mousinho now has on the flanks, it is highly unlikely he will even see a similar amount of football this term.

Segecic, Josh Murphy, Thomas Waddingham and Callum Lang will all be firmly above Kamara in the pecking order, and it will take something fairly drastic for that to change.

As a result, Portsmouth should be in no doubt about Kamara’s future, and they should be looking to move him on at the earliest opportunity.

Kamara is a signing that hasn’t worked out for Portsmouth

Portsmouth have focused a large part of their recruitment outside the EFL in recent seasons, and it has delivered them mixed results.

Kamara is certainly one piece of recruitment that falls into the mistakes category so far.

Kamara’s league stats throughout his career.

He arrived from Borussia Dortmund last summer, having spent the three previous seasons playing for their reserve side in the German third tier.

The winger showed flashes of his ability at times last season, but he has largely been unable to convince Mousinho that he is worthy of a regular place in the team.

With Pompey now looking to progress after consolidating last time out, there will surely be little room afforded for the likes of Kamara to continue playing a bit-part role.
