Chris Kamara: ‘I had to read this incredible Portsmouth stat twice’

Portsmouth will be hopeful that they can put further daylight between themselves and the Championship’s relegation zone this term.

John Mousinho’s side rallied in the second half of last season to avoid the drop with relative ease in the end, and they will surely have their eyes fixed on the possibility of pushing up into mid-table this time around.

Portsmouth have added the likes of Mark Kosznovszky and Adrian Segecic, among several other interesting new signings, and a large part of their fate may be controlled by their ability to adapt to English football.

The South Coast outfit have every right to be optimistic ahead of the campaign getting underway, but they must beware the fact that the Championship remains as unpredictable as ever.

Danny Rohl’s exit leaves Mousinho with no company

Portsmouth have watched their Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday struggle behind the scenes this summer, and the Owls have also faced an ongoing battle to keep their manager.

The impressive Danny Rohl has been linked with countless jobs over the last few months, and he now appears to have had his final straw with Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri.

Rohl’s exit was confirmed by mutual consent on Tuesday (29 July), with the Owls’ players now having gone two consecutive months without being paid.

The German’s departure from the South Yorkshire outfit has now created a stat which caught the attention of Chris Kamara, who branded the quirky point as “incredible” on his X account (29 July).

Of the 18 teams who featured in the Championship last season, and retained their place for this term, every single one has now changed manager, apart from Portsmouth.

Mousinho holds the key for Portsmouth

Portsmouth may have strengthened in the transfer market this summer, but Mousinho will still hold the key to their fortunes next term.

The 39-year-old has defied expectations in his first managerial job, having led the Fratton Park side to promotion in his first season and then kept them up last term.

He is now the division’s third-longest serving boss, and he possesses the level of tactical awareness that could almost single-handedly keep his side in the league for another season.

Mousinho is arguably the jewel in the Eisners’ crown at Pompey, and they will be delighted that they seem to have overcome the speculation surrounding his future from earlier in the summer.
