Terry Devlin sends two-word message as Barnsley complete new transfer

Portsmouth’s transfer window has begun to gain momentum in recent days.

Mark Kosznovszky and Luke Le Roux have been added to John Mousinho’s squad, as the south coast club prepares for another campaign in the Championship.

These additions, alongside the arrivals of Adrian Segecic and John Swift earlier in the window, are getting Pompey supporters excited as they aim to build upon their 16th-placed finish.

It has not only been additions to Mousinho’s squad; however, the exit of Ryley Towler to Lincoln City has also been confirmed.

Devlin reacts as Barnsley transfer confirmed

Another one of those players who seemingly does not have a future at Fratton Park is Jordan Archer, amidst interest from Salford City.

A player whose future is in no doubt over the summer is Terry Devlin, with the 21-year-old putting pen to paper on a new three-year deal back in March.

The Northern Irishman is a versatile option for Mousinho and can be deployed in midfield or as a right-back.

Last campaign, he featured 34 times and was a useful squad option for the Blues.

Devlin recently reacted to his fellow Northern Irishman, Patrick Kelly, as the midfielder completed a move to League One Barnsley from West Ham.

Underneath Kelly’s post on Instagram (28 July), Devlin commented: “Nice Patrick”, followed by a clapping and heart emoji.

Devlin will be hoping to play a bigger role at Pompey next season

Despite making 34 Championship appearances last season, only 13 came as a starter for Devlin, who will want to be on the bench less next season.

With the competition for places in midfield, however, this may be tricky for the youngster, particularly if Swift continues to impress Mousinho in pre-season.

Having Devlin as a cover option for Mousinho will be useful, however, particularly if signings such as Kosznovszky and Le Roux fail to settle on the south coast or have a dip in form throughout the season.

Pompey’s transfer business does not look to be finished there, however, with Isaac Hayden being linked with a move back to Fratton Park after his loan spell.

If this move materialises, then Devlin may have to accept that the only way he may get regular minutes next season is as a right-back.
