Portsmouth fans ‘to expect goalfest’ amid unbelievable stat ahead of Oxford game
John Mousinho has instilled an exciting style of football into his Portsmouth side since joining in January 2023.
That trend has continued during preseason, with a notable 1-0 win over Dutch side Zwolle rounding off their Championship preparations.
The Blues won four of their five pre-season fixtures, with 13 goals scored.
Portsmouth look set to carry their fine goalscoring form into their first game of the Championship season against Oxford United on Saturday (9 August).

Portsmouth have seen scored 24 goals in their last ten opening fixtures
Portsmouth have continued to add firepower this summer, with Adrian Segecic, John Swift and Florian Bianchini all offering different options up front.
Portsmouth will be without Colby Bishop for the game against Oxford, though that seems unlikely to stunt Pompey’s goalscoring prowess.

Over the last ten opening fixtures of the season, Pompey have seen 24 goals scored between them and their opponents.
While that might not sound that remarkable on the face of it, 2.4 goals per game, that figure shoots up to 4.6 goals on average from their past three openers.
At the start of their 2022/23 League One campaign, Blues supporters enjoyed a 3-3 draw away at Sheffield Wednesday.
Last season, Mousinho’s side replicated that scoreline against Leeds United, as they immediately demonstrated that they were in the Championship to stay.
In between those was 1-1 draw with Bristol Rovers on the first day of the 2023-24 League One season.
Another notable result over the last decade was their 1-1 draw with Carlisle United in the 2016/17 season, where the Blues eventually found form in the second half of the season to gain promotion as Champions of League Two.
The days of League Two now seem far away for Mousinho’s men, as they look to establish themselves as a Championship side.

Portsmouth target a big win against Oxford
Pompey’s preseason form and fruitful transfer window could help them to a win over the O’s.
- Portsmouth have scored 16 in their last 10 against Oxford
- They have conceded 12 in their last 10 against Oxford.
The Blues have a fantastic record over Oxford, and that will give them an extra edge on Saturday.
After last season’s squabble towards the bottom of the table, the next campaign could be very different for Mousinho.
