Hull City stuck in transfer battle as Portsmouth eye Abu Kamara again

Portsmouth are looking to continue their fine transfer window, with Abu Kamara a possible target.

John Mousinho is keen to add to his strike force this summer, after losing Kusini Yengi and Christian Saydee.

Colby Bishop should not be entirely relied upon, having missed 14 Championship games last season, and Pompey can’t afford to put all the pressure on young striker Thomas Waddingham.

Therefore, Mousinho is interested in bringing in a striker to support Bishop in the coming weeks, but insists that it must be the right one.

Portsmouth ‘like’ Kamara amid Hull City’s transfer embargo

Portsmouth have the opportunity to take advantage of Hull’s transfer embargo this summer.

Kamara was electric during his loan move at the Blues when they gained promotion from League One in the 2023/24 season.

Mousinho has continued to keep his eye on the 22-year-old, and Pompey had been backed to make a move for the youngster before he made the switch from Norwich to Hull last summer.

Kamara had an up-and-down debut season with the Tigers and was hounded for his lack of effort during a defeat to Middlesbrough.

The striker did well to come back from the defeat and earn the respect of Hull supporters after a strong end to the campaign.

Given that Hull are under a transfer embargo, Kamara could be available for sale this summer as the Tigers look to get their finances back on track.

According to journalist Darren Witcoop on X (11 August), Portsmouth “like” Kamara, indicating that a move could still be made.

Kamara would provide good competition for Bishop

Having played for the Blues before, Kamara would be a good signing for Mousinho, who knows what he is going to get with the youngster.

Given the demand placed on Bishop, Kamara would be good competition and cover for the former Accrington striker and would overall make the team better.

Given that Waddingham is in a new environment, Kamara would also be useful in nurturing the Australian.
