TikTok star GK Barry sends two-word message as Portsmouth Women seal signing

Portsmouth Women have continued to remain active in the transfer market this summer.

After dramatically escaping relegation last season, the South Coast club are looking to ensure that they aren’t dragged into another battle for survival for the upcoming campaign.

As a result, manager Jay Sadler has overseen a squad overhaul, with multiple players leaving and joining the South Coast side.

This stars such as Sophie Quirk leave Portsmouth for Bournemouth this summer.

Last week, Portsmouth Women announced the signing of Annie Wilding, who had become their eighth signing of the summer. However, Sadler has continued to search for further additions ahead of the WSL2 campaign.

GK Barry reacts as Portsmouth Women announce the signing of Ella Rutherford

On Wednesday, Portsmouth announced the signing of Ella Rutherford.

The 25-year-old midfielder had been at Ipswich Town last season and helped oversee their promotion into the WSL2.

Now, after leaving Ipswich Town, the midfielder has signed a one-year deal with Portsmouth ahead of the new season.

The signing was announced on Instagram on 13 August, with plenty of fans excited about the addition.

This included Rutherford’s partner, GK Barry, who has amassed a following of 4.1million followers on TikTok.

The influencer simply put: “Come on,” with the nail polish emoji.

Can Jay Sadler avoid another relegation battle?

Portsmouth Women no doubt defied the odds when they stayed up last season. After failing to win a match until March, it looked as if Pompey would be dropping out of the second tier.

However, a wonderful streak of form at the end of the campaign ensured relegation was avoided.

Nevertheless, it will be extremely difficult for Portsmouth Women to avoid another survival battle.

Two relegation spots have returned to the second tier with newly promoted Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town looking dangerous.

However, Sadler has beaten the odds before, and he will no doubt be backing himself to do it again.
